Few weeks ago I was volunteering at a women’s shelter. One of the women shared how she was put down every day by people who called her fat and stupid (although she lost a lot of weight and was only 106 pounds). She felt unworthy and unappreciated. But the reality is, she is pretty and a smart woman. When we told her how beautiful she is, hugged her and asked her to erase all those lies from her mind, she broke down and cried, overwhelmed by the love and acceptance she received. I often come across people with similar stories and I just want to say- Every day when you look at yourself in the mirror stop for a minute and really look at yourself. There is no one else like you in this entire world. That makes you pretty special and unique!!
I heard about Nicholas James Vujicic who was born with a rare disorder characterized by the absence of four limbs. As a child he struggled mentally, emotionally and physically with his disability. At age 17 he started his own non profit organization called Life Without Limbs. He learnt to drive, beat a drum, write, pen an autobiography, use a computer, play tennis and even surf!! He presents motivational speeches around the world and is an amazing and inspiring man. Nic is a great example of the fact that what people say about you does not define you. You are beautiful and enough just the way you are. You are a miracle and a masterpiece. Don’t allow anyone to tell you otherwise.
I read,” Purpose Driven Life” by Pastor Rick Warren and there is a poem in the book by Russell Kelfer and here’s some of it “, You are who you are for a reason. You’re part of an intricate plan. You’re a precious and perfect unique design, called God’s special woman or man. You look like you look for a reason. Our God made no mistake. He knit you together within the womb. You’re just what He wanted to make. No, that trauma you faced was not easy. And God wept that it hurt you so. But it was allowed to shape your heart so that into his likeness you would grow. You are who you are for a reason, you have been formed by the Master’s rod. You are who you are, beloved, because there is a God!”
